Life Of A Teenager Essay Example for Free

Life Of A Teenager Essay WE TEENS are something our life depends on cell phones, television and lot more. We are more bothered about our fashion and outlook. Our friends play the most important role in our life.A teenager, or teen, is a young person whose age falls within the range from thirteen  through nineteen (13–19). They are called teenagers because their age number ends in teen. Someone aged 18 or 19 is also considered a young adult. Timing of puberty On average, girls begin puberty at ages 10–11; boys at ages 11–12. Girls usually complete puberty by ages 15–17,[2][3][4] while boys usually complete puberty by ages 16-17. The major landmark of puberty for females is menarche, the onset of menstruation, which occurs on average between ages 12–13; for males, it is the first ejaculation, which occurs on average at age 13. In the 21st century, the average age at which children, especially girls, reach puberty is lower compared to the 19th century, when it was 15 for girls and 16 for boys. This can be due to improved nutrition resulting in rapid body growth, increased weight and fat deposition, or eating meat from animals which have been dosed up with oestrogen. I memorize the phone numbers of friends whom my parents do not approve of so that their names don’t blink on my mobile phone. Nothing Like a Friend I sometimes fight with my friends, but there’s mutual understanding that we won’t let our parents know. And, usually, we sort out the differences ourselves. Some of us get stuck with friends from whom we learn to smoke, drink, splurge, and other vices. For a while, I got entangled with a group of boys and became addicted to video games. When I want to attend a party or watch a film, I invent a story, like I am  going to study at a friend’s place. Last year one of my classmates was moving to another city. On his last day at school, I gave him `100 so that he could buy himself a present. It was the money my mother gave me to buy a sweater.

Beat Poets :: English Literature Essays

Beat Poets The "Beat Movement" in modern literature has become an important period in the history of literature and society in America. Incorporating influences such as jazz, art, literature, philosophy and religion, the beat writers created a new and prophetic vision of modern life and changed the way a generation of people sees the world. That generation is mow aging and its representative voices are becoming lost to eternity, but the message is alive and well. The Beats have forever altered the nature of American consciousness. The Beat Generation of writers offered the world a new attitude. They brought to society a consciousness of life worth living. They offered a method of escape from the stultifying, unimaginative world we live in, through the exploration of one's intellect. Beat has had many different contemporary implications in music, poetry and literature. Literature has been liberated considerably. The poetic form has been changed to inaugurate a new poetic form, an American form. "There was less emphasis on tradition and more emphasis on the individual talent. (www.rohan.sdsu.edu)" One of the most important contributions to contemporary verse was to take poetry out of the classrooms and into non-academic setting—coffee houses, jazz clubs, large public auditoriums and even athletic stadiums. Poetry is more popular and more read than anytime in history, not only spoken poetry but also sung poetry of a high order. "The literature, coordinated by pop music, with a way of dressing, with a way of life, it something that has influenced the youth of the world not only in Western countries but Eastern countries as well. (www.charm.net)" Music has been influenced greatly by Beat writing. The lyrics of many great songs have forever been changed by the writing of the Beat Generation. "Bob Dylan's favorite poet was Allen Ginsberg. Ginsberg became one of Dylan's greatest friends. He worked on many projects with Dylan...The band Rage Against the Machine has many of Ginsberg's poems and words show up in their songs. For instance the song 'Bulls on Parade' includes Ginsberg 'Hadda Been Playing on the Jukebox' (www.charm.net)" Generation X writers are compared to the Beat writers. Many people say that the "generation coming to age has the potential to bring a new vision to society. The Beats thumbed their noses at the corporate world just like Generation X does today. (www.altx.com/io/beatgeneration.html)" Many writers of Generation X have been influenced by the writing like Andy Clausen, Eliot Katz, Geoffrey Manough and Ed Sanders.

Affirmative Action Essay Time to Stop Special Privileges

Affirmative Action: Time to Stop Special Privileges Imaging being a young, black, grad-student, fresh out of law-school, looking for a job. You find and apply for the career of your dreams, only to find later that you didnt get the job. Petitioning the employer for an explanation, you find that you werent hired due to the color of your skin. Wouldnt this enrage you? Would you cry discrimination, and take the employer to court? Many people would sympathize with you and grant you the decision in the court case. Discrimination like that has no place in todays society. Now imagine the exact same scenario, only instead of being black, youre white. You find and apply for the career of your dreams, only to find later that you†¦show more content†¦The current president, Lyndon Baines Johnson, decided that certain measures needed to be taken to insure the progress of human rights in America, and therefore proposed the Civil Rights Act. Good idea? In theory, yes, the law indeed gave many deserved jobs to blacks and women. Past decades of unfair discrimination were ended with that law. Affirmative Action fulfilled its purpose for several years, but in the late 70s, the way the Act was interpreted began to change remarkably. In 1978, the Supreme Court made a decision that in hiring, racial quotas are constitutional and necessary in order to effectively end discrimination. Later, in 1979, private employers received the right to use racial preferences to correct past discrimination. In the court case of Johnson v. Transportation Agency of Santa Clara County, the issue of hiring minorities and women over better-qualified men and whites as a means to improve workplace balance was upheld (Tyson). What all this means to the average, tax-paying, American citizen is that discrimination is once again a vital issue in American society, only this time its against Caucasian males. Whatever happened to a mankinds achievements being the basis for success? Now, white males are having to work harder to get the same jobs that women and minorities recieve, on the basis of sex or race.
